November will be gone before we know it!

Published by under Uncategorized

Hello Room 17 Families,

Where has the time gone? I want to thank everyone that took time out of their busy schedule to come in and meet with me during conferences. I really enjoyed meeting each and every one of you.  I hope you walked away from the conference with good thoughts about the education your child is receiving in third grade and strategies to help him/her go further.  We have wrapped up our second book in both reading and math.  The students took their end of theme reading test last week and took the end of unit math quiz today.  We have a full week of school this week, however the following one is very short due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  We will only have school on Monday and Tuesday of that week.  I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoys the time spent with family and friends.

Fall has officially begun!!

Published by under Uncategorized

It has been a while since my last update, and I apologize for that!! We have been so busy over the past several weeks! We completed our first round of DCAS! The students were very focused and did a nice job!! We told them not to worry too much about their scores for now because they were being tested on some concepts they haven’t learned yet. We told the students that as the year progresses and they continue to learn more, we should see an increase in their test scores.  We have also wrapped up our first theme in Reading. It was during that theme that we focused on learning about characters and setting, locating information, and alphabetical order. We are almost completely finished with our first unit in math. We will wrap it up  later this week and take our end of unit district assessment. In science we have begun our Human Body kit! The class has learned how many bones are in our body, the functions of our skeleton, and we have begun an exciting investigation today about owl pellets. Ask your child all about it!! Well, as always, keep an eye on the weather. We are getting to the cooler part of the year so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately each day as we try to get outside!

Gearing Up!!

Published by under Uncategorized

We are gearing up for a full week of school this week!! The students have done a great job adjusting to our daily routines! We have completed our first assessment in reading on the following skills: Characters and Setting, A,B,C order, and short vowel sounds. The results of those quizzes will drive our small groups in class. Mrs. Haushalter and Mrs. Jackson will be pulling aside children that are struggling with those skills to help the students become stronger at them. In math we are continuing with place value, addition and subtraction. The students have been working a lot with base ten blocks to break numbers down into ones, tens, and hundreds. In social studies we are continuing with our unit on communities. We have learned that we all belong to many communities of various sizes. We also will begin working on privileges, rights and responsibilities. Here’s to another great week of school!!!

Welcome Back!!!

Published by under Uncategorized

Dear Families,

Wow!! What a week we have had! Last week we felt an earthquake and experienced a hurricane!! Hopefully mother nature will take it easy on us for the rest of the school year! Anyway, I can’t believe that summer is over! I have been busy setting up our class and getting excited to meet all of you!! I was happy to see that some of our Wilmington Manor students took time out of their busy summer schedules to head to our library for Community Days! We had a lot of fun and learned about several new countries along the way!! If you didn’t make it this year, make sure that you try and come out for it next summer! Please remember that your summer reading projects are due the first week of school! I can’t wait to see them!! Take care and I can’t wait to meet all of you and learn about you during our year together!
